Should You Hire a Public Adjuster to Assist You with an Insurance Claim?

March 12, 2023

It depends. How far are you along the insurance claims process and is there any issues with the staff adjuster assigned by your insurance carrier?

Many homeowner’s claims are resolved without a public adjuster’s assistance but many times a public adjuster is needed in order to get a insurance payout that is necessary to get your home back to its pre-loss condition.

Many insurance companies run on bare bone staffing and thus turnover with adjusters is high. Also, adjusters are juggling many, many claims so if you feel your claim is not getting the proper attention and your claim is large in nature ($50K+) then it might be a good idea to hire a public adjuster.

That doesn’t mean a claim under $50k shouldn’t be considered for hiring a public adjuster, but that if your claim is relatively small and you feel the insurance payout is reasonable in order to get you back to your pre-loss condition, then a public adjuster may not be necessary.

However, if your home has historical features or if your current staff adjuster with the insurance company is non-responsive, doesn’t answer phone calls, feels that he/she already paid you enough but you obviously know that no contractor would fix your home for the given payout (minus your deductible) then a public adjuster might be what you need in order to get your home and life back on track.
